My Calling: Ministry through Writing

Flashback
Before I even knew how to spell, I would fill pages upon pages of notebooks upon notebooks with scribbles and curly-cues. Being super proud of my work, I would run to my mom with my beautiful writings in hand, eager for her to see what I had done! Having the most wonderful and supportive mom, she would exclaim “Wow, Katie! Look at that!” pointing out specific things in my “writing” that were well done. “This right here looks just like a cursive ‘y,’ ” she would say, to which I would lightly gasp with amazement and respond by assuring my mom that, “I didn’t even know I was doing that!” I walked away from moments like that feeling encouraged and proud of my ability to write, even when I didn't know what a cursive 'y' looked like. During those times, I never really knew that someday I would want to be a writer. My mom on the other hand, always did.
Growing up, what I wanted to be was a professional ice skater or olympic gymnast. I even went on a whole different spectrum and for a period of time wanted to be a large livestock veterinary assistant and a film director. But as the times changed, and my dreams changed, I was left feeling so confused about what God wanted me to do.
I had started school at Biola University in the Fall of 2012 with my heart completely set on studying film. I came into college with an undeclared major, but was absolutely determined to get into the Film program. That’s when God switched gears completely and led me into a totally different major: Biblical Studies. I followed Him, unsure of why He was leading me there. I spent 3 whole semesters not knowing what I wanted to do with the major. Not knowing God's plan had become really exhausting. Towards the end of the Spring semester of 2014, the puzzle pieces were all starting to come together. God brought to mind all the memories of writing since I was little, and the love I had found in that. I knew that I wanted to use writing as a form of ministry. My passion for encouraging and helping others eventually lead me into Christian Ministries, where I have found a deeper love to use writing.
A Look Ahead
My ultimate dream is to write Christian themed books, as well as devotional books for girls ages 12-18.
I feel called to share stories to advance the Kingdom of God and to encourage others to make the world look a little more like Jesus.
Life is ministry, and ministry is life!
God has given me unique experiences and stories to share with others, and I am incredibly blessed by God's handprint and guidance in my life. I'm hopeful as I look ahead to the ministry that God is preparing for me, as I seek to pursue God’s calling in my life through writing.
Here's to the past that God has used to shape me and my calling.
Here's to the present of following after God's plan.
Here's to the future, where God's blessings shall continue as we work together to change the world!
Many blessings,
Katie McGuire
